Today those that stayed loyal to their school determined to obtain an education re-lived the emotions from the 2007 horrible Virginia Tech heartbreak.   I am ending my day hearing of this terrible tragedy and wondering what is wrong with the children of today?  Is it seriously getting so bad that parents are unable to proudly send their child off to obtain a higher level education while being excited and sad about the change both of their lives will now under go.   Instead they send them on their quest for knowledge and independence scared they may never see them again?

Are we really that broken of a society and just do not see it?  Is it more laws, better teachers, less stress that is needed to bring society back to calm?  Hummm!  Perhaps it should be morals, more involvement in the lives of others, better examples, and more meaning to the holidays rather than a day off or a good deal?  When you are rushing through your lunch hour to finish your Christmas shopping and get frustrated at the older woman checking you out at a slower pace trying to be friendly and chat, remember she’s my mother or mother in law who after a long day at work will come with a tired smile and help me care for my children.

The point being, think of others and teach others to think of others by being an example not just during holidays but every day and not just with those you know but with everyone.  I see a lot about the need to take care of one’s self prior to taking care of others.  This is true but I think there is a difference between taking care of you and putting yourself first.  It’s similar to that of a want versus a need I suspect.  It is funny how one can always seem to justify that want into a need when they want it bad enough.   The reality is that there is always someone worse off than you and always someone better off than you if you really take the time to think about it.  Hence, life is not about you, it’s not about me, it’s not about Harper!

This seizure research project is not just for Harper and God willing Harper will get the opportunity to experience the real benefit of this project but if not, all who come after her will.  This is possible because of those individuals able to obtain that higher level of education.  When I see an event such as this the thought crosses my mind, you never know who someone might turn out to be.  And I’m not referring to the shooter who was your friend that you would never have suspected of doing such a thing.  I am wondering if that shooter just killed the future doctor that could have saved my daughter and others like her.
