I am a voice for Harper Elle Howard, but alone, my voice is a whisper. Harper, an 18 month old girl, needing a voice that can scream from rooftops. Harper suffers from an extremely rare and in some cases life-threatening genetic disorder called CDKL5. Fewer than 300 individuals world-wide have been diagnosed with this debilitating illness. CDKL5 individuals have intense daily seizures, vision impairment, low muscle tone, and severely delayed development. Harper deals with all of these issues every day. She is treated with extensive therapy and medication regimens, and though her progress is slow, I have great hope. Harper did not come into this world to be a silent child merely living through a disease; God sent her to be a source of hope for others. Harper is not the only special child who serves as a beacon of hope. Two year old Anaya has Krabbe Leukodystrophy – a terminal brain disease that is fatal. Yet she too has clung to hope, daily persevering regardless of her disease.
